Message from Marny Xiong

Marny Xiong for Saint Paul School Board

Message from the candidate:
Thank you for your endorsement, Democrats! My name is Marny Xiong, and I was born and raised in the heart of Saint Paul on Thomas Avenue in the Frogtown neighborhood. My parents were refugees who immigrated to the U.S. from war-torn Laos, and they taught me that, in order to succeed in the U.S. and reach my highest aspirations, I must finish my education. I took their words to heart and became a proud alumna of Saint Paul Public Schools. I achieved my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and African and African American Studies from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. I have been a community organizer for over 10 years and worked on various campaigns to fight for racial and economic justice. My experience organizing with the Vote No Campaign, Take Action Minnesota, SEIU Local 113 and serving on various boards, such as the Payne-Phalen Neighborhood, has equipped me with the skillsets necessary in bringing equity to Saint Paul Public Schools. I am committed to collaborating with students, parents, unions, educators and stakeholders to ensure equity for all students, increased enrollment, and education achievement for college success. It’s time we eliminate barriers that keep members of our community and future leaders from reaching their highest potential. Let’s win together on November 7!
